Advice needed Ray die during WC
I had a new tank setup 6x2.5x2.5 with sump since 2 months, transferred with old matured tank water and media. But 3 weeks back after I did 15% WC at rather fast rate, my 2 rays of 13" died hours after Wc.
Testing a WC again and knowing my amateur mistake, I reduced rate of flow of water today to rather slow . Had another new 13" ray very stable in tank for few days, but died during WC itself, after 15%.
My tank pH is 7.3 and tap is 8. Anti chlorine nutrafin added. Never experienced this ever.. Can anyone advise the potential problem?
In my old tank setup in another location, even a 50% WC went fine....
Thanks.

Sad to hear this bro, from my understanding rays are very sensitive to PH especially sudden fluctuation can kill them easily.
The acclimatisation of ray into a new tank with different parameter can easily take more than 4hrs with dripping method as to avoid PH shock.
Your case is likely because of the differences in PH due to fast rate water introduced during WC.
Some season occupants may not affected by the fast rate water during WC but there is always a risk.
Just my personal opinion and I may be wrong
Let the gurus and experts share their view
>I suspect that the chlorine content is very high. Maybe is more New water in ur area. Im sorry for ur loss.
>do you have pics of your dead ray?
you might want to double check your water parameters before and after WC. Are you using any ph meter at the moment?
i was previously using nutrafin+ too but after a word of advise from a ray guru, i changed to seachem safe as my permanent anti chlorine.
>Im also using seachem safe(powder) for the ray.. always over-dose during wc, just to be safe..
>Thanks all for feedback.
It was the famous disc curl..
I did take the ph readings, initial tank was 7.3, after was 7.5. Tap water is at 8. I think I have done same flow rate WC in past with similar ph difference, but it doesnt kill rays like that....
I overdosed on anti cholrine too, nutrafin+, and could this be the reason?
Is seachem safe solution a more advisable option?
>Sorry to hear that.
I always trust and use seachem prime for W/C. Its expensive but losing livestock is more expensive + heartache!

Is nutrafin cycle advisable to add for ray tank, the one that promotes good bacteria?
Sorry for another newbie question. Whatever the dosage advised for antichlorine, it is pegged to the volume of new water to be added, right? in general, for seachem prime, even if overdose, should be ok?
Thanks.
>why are you adding nutrafin cycle when your tank is already cycled? just curious..

Thanks. suspect water-related problem. I often change > 50% and full blast and the rays are fine. Any other scale-less fish in the tank? Maybe try the water with some cheap catfish
